The focus of Sonoma County Taxes for Peace is threefold:
- To actively educate ourselves, the community and the government (IRS, Congress, etc.) to the futility of working and praying for peace while simultaneously paying tax dollars for war.
- To popularize the concept of war tax protest, specifically the redirecting of war taxes toward peaceful alternatives.
- To offer support and reassurance for people whose conscience or faith move them towards war tax protest.
There are other specific tasks which are basic to our work. We offer counseling on the methods and consequenses of war tax resistance. We attempt to allay many of the fears and misconceptions taxpayers have about the IRS. We support the passage of the Peace Tax Fund Bill which recognizes conscientious objection to and redirection of war taxes.
